Alfred Edward Chalon (British, 1780-1860), Portrait Miniature of a young Officer of the 33rd Regiment, wearing a scarlet uniform with gold epaulettes, unsigned, watercolour on ivory, oval, 6cm x 5cm, in gold oval frame with brown silk back. Exemption Submission reference: VYC3J9S6. Provenance: Chiswick Auctions 19th June 2019 lot 47. Ex. Ron J Mills Collection.  Ron Mills was a chocolatier in Bath; over several years he assembled and carefully curated an impressive collection of portrait miniatures and silhouettes - his life's passion.

The frame is slightly distorted and looks as though it may have been opened in the past. Ten minor scratches and nibbles around the edge of the frame with one out of eight pins missing. Two small marks on glass under sitter's eye and on sash. portrait looks as though it may have slightly moved inside frame revealing the edge of the portrait. Slight mark that runs along the left edge of portrait, colours appear slightly darker and has a sheen suggesting it may have been retouched. One slight fray on the brown silk on the back of the portrait.
