A 19th century Russian ''month'' Icon, possibly August, oil on board, this is one of a series of twelve icons that marked each month of the year, It depicts saints and festivals celebrated during the month, Painters' manuals such as the Stroganov Icon Painting Manual listed the saints and festivals for each day and showed how they were to be painted, cased in a 19th century rosewood and glazed frame, H 38 cm x W 33 cm.
