Tribal art; four early 20th century Javanese Wayang Kulit (shadow puppets), formed of ornately painted animal hide with articulated limbs, supported by sticks, W28cm x L 66cm (4). Provenance: from the puppet collection of puppeteer Francis Redvers (1899-1978). Francis entertained the troops during WWII working for ENSA, as well as appearing on the BBC in 1939 and giving a performance to Queen Mary 1941.
