We are thrilled with successful sales so far from the valuation days introduced in Ilminster earlier this year.

White Star Steamer Chair

Potential vendors have brought in plenty of interesting items for our team to value, many of which have gone on to auction.

Of particular note was an early twentieth century White Star Line steamer deckchair from the RMS Titanic era, which went under the hammer in May for £5000. This chair attracted a lot of interest and was featured in the Antiques Trade Gazette.

Another success was a nineteenth century 18 carat gold quarter repeating pocket watch. A fine example of this special style of pocket watch which chimes out the exact time in a series of melodious tones at the press of a button, fetched £3,400. Reflecting the current interest in gold and silver, an 18 carat watch chain sold for £4,200.

Auctioneer and Valuer, Jennifer Bell, who often attends our valuation days, said: “We’ve been impressed with the quality of the items people have been bringing to us and we’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who has made us feel most welcome in Ilminster.”

Valuations take place at Monk’s Yard, just off the A303, every fourth Thursday from 10am to 12.30pm. Once valued, there’s no obligation to sell through Chilcotts although of course we are delighted to do so.
