A William III West Country silver Trefid Spoon, makers mark only three times on stem, see Jackson 'English Goldsmiths and their Marks', 2nd edition, page 465, for attribution of the mark to Plymouth but maker unidentified, with worn beaded rat tail, the terminal prick dot engraved with initials 'NW over MS' and dated 1699, 8in (20.3cm) 1.64ozt.
Provenance: from The Charles C Brian Collection.  Mr Charles Brian was a born in Plymouth in 1916; he trained as a solicitor and joined his family law practice, C G Brian & Sons. He had a great love of Plymouth and Devon, and amassed a collection of Exeter and Plymouth silver. His particular interest was his collection of early West Country spoons.
